Somewhere during the dust bowl era, which was caused by decades of extensive farming and severe drought, an event like the one in this scene tool place. I am not saying that this particular image was taken during those years, but a poor animal wandering beside a track, and with an abandoned house behind it must have taken place quite often. It must have been a very harsh time.
